Keith’s journey into aviation started far from the hangars he operates today. Growing up in Detroit, his entrepreneurial spirit emerged early—selling newspapers and learning the value of hard work. After moving to Selma, he worked at the local hospital until he heard about opportunities at Raytheon. Determined to break into the industry, he applied repeatedly until he landed an entry-level job washing airplanes. That persistence paid off: Keith was invited to join the company’s paint department, where a mentor spent more than a year training him in every step of the aircraft painting process.
With a strong desire to build something of his own, Keith attended a Chamber of Commerce program on business planning and officially formed KASS Aviation in 2008. But like many entrepreneurs, the early years were quiet. It wasn’t until 2011 that he secured his first job painting a static display aircraft—an opportunity that sparked momentum. From there, additional static display projects followed, eventually giving him the confidence to lease his first hangar at the Selma airport.
